I'm a Dutch writer-director based in Cornwall, UK.
Before ending up at the LUCA School of Arts in Belgium to study film directing, I lived in the Netherlands, Denmark and Germany. Ever since, I have been particularly interested in globalisation and its often hidden effects on our societies and its citizens.
Most of my films feature main characters who find themselves lost in the margins of society. They are usually portrayed by real world talent; non-actors I find via street casting. I believe they bring an authenticity to the story and world of the film, that a screenwriter (through imagined dialogue) or professional actor (through imagined acting) will struggle to surpass.
My films can be characterised by a hybrid feel, balancing the fictional with the real. Even though I (co)write a script for each film, it’s my recurring collaboration with non-actors that really bring my films to life. Finding the right unique filmic form for each story is what excites me most about writing-directing.
